Update: Thursday 24th June

As I am sure many of you know, last week was Learning Disability Week.

To celebrate, Hannah and Emma from Church View signed ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ in Makaton.

Update: Tuesday 22nd June 2021

Last week was #LearningDisabilityWeek. This year it was around the theme of creativity. Expressing their creative sides and being particularly grateful for their friendships over the last year, our Grafton students learned how to sign in Makaton ‘You’ve got a friends in me’. They also explored their creativity by making friendship bracelets and chose who they gifted them to.

Meanwhile, to show his appreciation, Rob from the Wheatlands delivered flowers to his friends at Church View and Kynaston. They were all extremely grateful and happy to see Rob, even if it was at a safe social distance.

Monday 14th June

This week is Learning Disability Week.

This year’s Learning Disabilities Week is all around the theme of creativity.

In preparation, Nicky took a vote from our Learner Voice reps regarding what activities they would like everyone at CCL to take part in. The results were:

  1. Creating friendship bracelets – the last year has been all about friendships and creativity, so the two combined seems appropriate!
  2. A Zoom party amongst houses– hosting a creative Zoom party, which could involve undertaking an arts and crafts activity virtually.
  3. Singing and signing– using our creative sides to sign or sing ‘You’ve got a friend in me’, as a way of expressing our creative sides and a celebration of the friendships that have kept everyone going over the last year.

So far, we have created a Makaton video of ‘You got a friend in me’. Take a look: https://youtu.be/_Mq-7qRQ_Io
