CCL’s Celebration Day 2021

On Wednesday 21^st July, we hosted our CCL Celebration Day. Whilst we would have loved to all celebrate together in person, with the rise in COVID cases, we did not feel it was safe enough to do so. Therefore, similar to last year, we held the Celebration Day via Zoom, with Grafton and Day Opportunities hosting separate events.

Day Opportunities Programme Celebration Day

Katy Russell, Manager of the Day Opportunities Programme, hosted their Celebration Day, with CCL’s schemes and parents attending via Zoom. All schemes chose their own themes and what wonderful themes they chose – ranging from Welwyn with a Pride theme, Church View choosing 80s/90s, the Orchard – masked ball, Day Opportunities – Mad Hatters Tea Party, Walford Lodge – glitter, Kynaston – festival, Hall Bank Mews – fancy dress, Torrin Drive – Safari themed (chosen by Ben and Carl), Mayfield – graduation and many more.

Katy kick started the celebration with singing and signing of ‘Cover me in sunshine’ by Pink. It was a lovely start to the day and lots of the residents, learners, staff and parents got involved with the singing and signing parts.

Katy then presented awards to Church View, Day Opportunities, Hall Bank Mews and Harley Road. Followed by a slideshow of CCL’s 2021 pictures, accompanied with ‘Follow the Sun’ by Xavier Rudd. High Ridges, Kynaston, Mayfield, the Crescent and the Orchard were then presented with their awards. Over at Kynaston, it was Naomi’s birthday, so Katy and all of Day Opportunities sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her, which she was very pleased with!

Following the second set of awards, we watched another slideshow of pictures from 2021 with ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus and ‘Shine’ by Take That. Last but not least, Katy presented Torrin Drive, Walford Lodge, Welwyn and the Wheatlands with their awards.

Before everyone said their farewells, Katy led a final singing and signing session of ‘Celebration’ by Kool & the Gang. Everyone got involved and there was some fantastic dancing going on! Finally, Katy gave a lovely speech regarding how well everyone had done throughout 2021.

The Zoom party may have been over, but the Celebration Day had only just begun for our schemes! They all had a delicious buffet from Jenny’s Catering at their individual schemes and carried on their parties – dancing and playing games with their friends!

Grafton’s Celebration Day

Grafton held their Celebration Day at their Education Centre with all their learners and team together, and parent’s joining via Zoom. They started their Celebration Day with a video created by the students and staff, which was very emotional to watch for a lot of the team!

Following the video, the Grafton team presented certificates of achievement and said farewell to the students who are leaving. They then showed another video that the staff team had created – again, very emotional (see below)!

After a wonderful set of presentations, the students and team at Grafton enjoyed a delicious buffet from Jenny’s Catering in their sunny garden. A truly lovely day had by all!
