Condover College was founded by someone who simply wanted the very best for his son.

In 2004, Steve McGill’s son Matthew was studying at Condover Hall School in Shrewsbury, which was run by the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

When the RNIB announced the school was under threat of closure, Steve stepped in. He was approached by RNIB with a business plan to set up Condover College as a charity  exempt from registration under the Cooperative and Community Benefit Societies Act. This ethos is reflected in our business structure, so we’re not about making money for shareholders. We put everything back into the people we support.

Sadly, our founder Steve passed away in 2014. Today we are still honouring his passion and commitment in providing the best possible care and opportunities for all.

Though we started with just our educational centre and three residential schemes, we now have 15 residential schemes, Short Breaks at our Greenfields scheme and an Opportunities Programme which enables our learners to fulfil their greatest aspirations.

We believe our success is due to putting our learners first, always aiming for excellence and remaining focused on meeting individual needs.

We feel that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and is at the heart of everything we do. Not only do we recognise the importance of having policies and procedures in place we create a positive safeguarding culture where residents and staff feel able to raise concerns knowing that they will be listened to and their concerns acted upon.

We take our responsibilities seriously and have clear comprehensive policies and procedures. Our Safeguarding Working Group are instrumental in promoting outstanding safeguarding practices monitored by our Board of Management.

We ensure that all our staff have the knowledge and understanding of the importance of Adult Safeguarding. We have thorough policies and procedures, recruitment processes, training and risk assessments to set and maintain those standards.

We have a clear and easy system of reporting all issues whether safeguarding or general incidents whereby staff feel willing and able to report. These are reviewed by managers and then by a member of the Executive Group to ensure appropriate action is taken and any lessons learned are shared. Where appropriate incidents are referred to Shropshire Adult Safeguarding Team.
